The Practical Believers in Christ Ministries Mentoring and Affiliation Network is a network of Bible believing churches, Ministries, Businesses, Christian workers and individuals bound together by a common shared faith, united in purpose and witness.

UPBIC maintains good working relationships with many churches around the globe. It’s diverse association of churches include every race, nationality, and ethnic group. We are also network minded, action-oriented with each other and with strategic vision, leadership training , and resources to help people become fully devoted followers of Christ.

Our Pastors’ Mentoring and Fellowship program, intended to Serve God’s Servants, sponsors special gatherings during the year and additional teaching resources are made available to assist pastors and businessmen and women in their ministry---especially with theological, business and apologetic issues and growing disciples in their congregations.

Applicants to the UNITED PRACTICAL BELIEVERS IN CHRIST Program must receive a recommendation from their pastors, or must be pastoring already. Affiliation must not become asking for money, rather how we can fellowship and put up programs to build the kingdom.

We are independent churches
We are an independent church! Every UPBIC affiliation is completely independent. There is no denominational control or hierarchy. Each church is self-governed and determines its own affairs.

What are the advantages of affiliating with the UPBIC?
It allows us to:

  • Mentor pastors and church leaders who hands have not been laid upon and sent out by men of God but have started churches and are already pastoring.
  • Teach other pastors, wives and church leaders who had no opportunity for training before they got into the ministry.
  • Ordain men who are pastoring without any ordination (must go through set up requirements to be ordained and must already have a congregation).
  • Fellowship and conferences among pastors, church leaders & businessmen and women.
  • Lead pastors, men and women to business ventures to help their churches and church congregations.
  • Strengthen business men and women in local churches to reach their potential to support the work of evangelism.
  • Identify with other Christians around the world who are known for their commitment to the Bible.

Founded in 1994 in the USA by Dr. Kodjoe and Dr. Akosuah Appiah Sumney, the United Practical Believers in Christ, Inc. (UPBIC) in collaboration with Mission Africa Incorporated is in partnership with hundreds of churches, universities and organizations in USA and Ghana reaching out to the nations for Christ.
The mission of the UPBIC is to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ through preaching, teaching, mentoring, business ventures and healing.

the purposes of this voluntary global fellowship are as follows:

  • To unite churches, associations, organizations and schools in Christian evangelism so as to fulfill the Great Commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through preaching, teaching, mentoring and business ventures;

    b) To promote home and foreign mission efforts;

    c) To encourage and support Christian education;

    d) To engage in any other endeavors deemed fitting and proper in order to advance the cause of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

Organization & Governance

UPBIC does not prescribe nor exercise administrative control over any of its membership; these matters are left for the attention of local organization and church authorities. Our ultimate goals is ability to harness and coordinate and network the resources and efforts of its membership to accomplish goals greater than those that could be accomplished in isolation. For this reason, the organization has enjoyed the devoted participation and support of many churches and individuals throughout its history

Jesus said He would build His "church", the Greek word for church is " ekklesia" and it is correctly interpreted "those called out". Therefore if you have a congregation or ministry you have been called out of the world and are the church. This can be easily reconciled with Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."

If you have an established congregation or ministry work or have been called to establish a local congregation or ministry work we would encourage you to consider becoming part of the UPBIC Being part of the UPBIC will allow You to retain your autonomy be part of a church association providing ministry accountability. We are here to help you fulfill your call. As an Affiliate you will become an integral part of our outreaches. Because you are autonomous you control your finances, purpose and vision. We are here to provide pastoral leadership or "pastor the pastors" . We do not grant spiritual authority and make no judgment regarding your calling, it is between you and the Holy Spirit.

If you are the senior leader of a ministry work and chose to seek ordination acknowledgement and are acknowledged, your organization will become a UPBIC Affiliate by agreement. Generally the next question we get asked is: what does it cost and what do we get? It is a very important question because we should understand the ministry covenant relationship that is being considered. A good amount of information is available on this website, so please review the commitment page, our statement of faith and take the time to learn more about the ministries leaders that make up the UPBIC, then and foremost pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal His will in this.

UPBIC uses very specific set of Biblical qualifications, administered by mature Christian Overseers dedicated to serving The Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe that scripture reserves ordination to God and Himself alone. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10)
Therefore ordination by man is subject to man's limitations, ordination by God is subject to God's limitless call.

A.        Ordination is reserved to individuals called by God who have surrendered their life to the Lord Jesus Christ, to be used in the pursuit of a life long ministerial calling, fulfilling the role as an anointed one of God, set apart.
        1.         Ordination is the act of 2 Timothy 4:5 or any other assembly, holding in common the belief in salvation by no other name than Jesus Christ, whereby an individual is acknowledged as being set apart for ministry by God.
        2.         Because ordination is reserved to God it is UPBIC’S responsibility to confirm such by the following:
                a.         By verbal confirmation in prayer.
                b.         By an act signifying the anointing of the Holy Spirit in the ordained life.
                c.         By presenting the ordainee with a certificate of ordination containing the official seal of the ministry.
B.         Qualifications:
        1. The individual must be in charge of a congregation already, and hold like beliefs as UPBIC believing that there is salvation by no other name than Jesus Christ.
         2. The individual must be mature in the Lord and, must have made a commitment to full time ministry.
                a.         Full time commitment does not exempt an ordained individual from being required to fulfill outside employment.
                b.         Full time ministry does not prevent the ordained individual from performing outside employment until God opens the doors.
                c.         Full time ministry is described as ones primary responsibility is to the work of God and to the duties required of a child of God.

Looking to become an ordained minister?
UPBIC ordination acknowledgement to non-denominational ministers through the Church Ministry Association . Jesus said "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit" ( John 15:16). We take the responsibility to ordain very seriously. We believe Christian ordination, is like any minister affiliation and requires diligence on our part ( 1 Timothy 5:22) before minister ordination occurs or we acknowledge an ordained ministry .

If you are seeking an ordination certificate to be an ordained minister by submitting an ordination application for the sole purpose of being called a pastor or to performing weddings we may not be the ordination ministry for you.

UPBIC’S Church Ministry ordination is for pastors who are already pastoring congregations but have not been ordained and sent out by any Apostle or Pastor. They must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation and outward minded and having an impact for Jesus on this world. If your desire is to serve the Lord by loving your neighbor as yourself ( Matthew 22:39) this may be the minister affiliation for you.

We don’t issue online ordination certificate on the Internet. UPBIC ordination requires one to be trained first through our programs, online or face to face and then the ordination. We use a Biblical set of criteria and evaluate each ordination application personally. If you have a congregation and already pastoring ordination generally takes about 120 days to one year on average and depending on each case. Ordination application received is approved (only about 75% of ordination applications are approved on the initial review). We are real people doing real ministry in the United States and throughout the world. We are here to "pastor and mentor" the leadership of the Body of Christ. We provide a relationship of accountability for ministers.

During the ordination application process you will receive periodic communications from the Apostle’s office, Dr. Kodjoe Sumney and a Church Ministry Association area Director will be assigned to oversee your ordination process and ordination application. The ordination application process will require you to share information about yourself like: if you have a minister ordination or minister affiliation with another organization along with other information before we acknowledge you as an ordained minister and issue an ordination certificate .
We exclusively provide Christian ordination and acknowledge ordained ministers if God has ordained you. Our non-denominational ordination for non-denominational ministers is about what God has done and your ordained ministry affiliation .
We encourage you to get to know more about the UNITED PRACTICAL BELIEVERS IN CHRIST Association by reviewing this site and asking any questions you may have about the ordination process or the ongoing ministry affiliation relationship.

In His service,

Dr. Kodjoe Sumney – Apostle

2 Timothy 4:5"But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."
